POSTER MAKING CONTEST MECHANICS

  1. The poster making contest is open to students of public and private colleges and universities nationwide.
  2. The poster should be a visualization of the 2018 National Book Week theme: “CONNECTED ACTIONS, COLLECTIVE VISION : LIBRARIES TRANSFORMING SOCIETY.”
  3. Use white illustration board, 15” x 20” in size.
  4. Contestants may use any medium (craypas, water color, crayon, pentel pen, etc.)
  5. The entry should be an original work and a certification to this effect from the Dean must be submitted together with the contestant’s name.
  6. The contestant’s name and school must be written on a separate sheet of paper and stapled or attached at the back of the entry.
  7. All entries will become the property of PLAI.
  8. The criteria for judging will be as follows:

35% – Originality
15% – Pictorial design and composition
15% – Technique
35% – Relevance to the theme
100% TOTAL

  1. The winners will receive the following prizes :
  • 1st Prize – P5,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition to the College/University
  • 2nd Prize – P4,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition to the College/University
  • 3rd Prize – P3,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition to the College/University
  1. The winning entry will be used as souvenir program cover and in other promotional materials in relation to National Book Week celebration.
  2. Winners will officially be awarded during the official opening of the 84th National Book Week on November 24, 2018 at the National Library of the Philippines.

Senior High School

GRAPHIC NOVEL MAKING MECHANICS

  1. This contest is open to Grade 11-12 Senior High School students.
  2. There is a limit of one entry per school.
  3. Participants are encouraged to create their own comic book with a maximum length of 8 pages only, including the cover page.
  4. They must use letter-size paper (8.5 x 11) with black-and-white drawings and text on one side only.
  5. Each submission must be a creative and original work of the submitting author/illustrator. Any submissions with more than one author/illustrator listed (within the same institution), will be considered a single entry and will share any prize possibly awarded.
  6. Computer generated images are acceptable as long as they are original work (no clip art).
  7. Participants must complete the Graphic Novel Making Contest Entry Form and the Photo/Creative Works Release Form. (to be released soon)
  8. Entries must be submitted to any regional council representative institution no later than 5:00 PM on September 7, 2018.
  9. Entries may be submitted online to darrel.marco@gmail.com as a JPEG or PDF attachment. Digital entries must be submitted no later than 5:00 PM on September 7, 2018.
  10. The following are the criteria for judging:

35% – Content (Overall Story)
30% – Originality
20% – Creativity
20% – Illustrations
100% TOTAL

High School

 ESSAY WRITING CONTEST MECHANICS

  1. The essay writing contest is open to Grades 7-12 students of public and private secondary schools nationwide per regional council. The winning entry in the regional level will automatically be the official entry for the national contest.The theme of the essay will be given on the day of the contest at the National Library, T.M. Kalaw St., Ermita, Manila.
  2. The essay should be written in English, not more than 300 words, handwritten.
  3. The winning entry in the regional level should submit a digital copy of their essay.
  4. The contestant’s name and school must be written on a separate sheet of paper and stapled or attached at the back of the entry.
  5. All entries will become the property of PLAI.
  6. The criteria for judging will be as follows:

35% – Organization
35% – Content
30% – Mechanics
100% TOTAL

  1. The winners will receive the following prizes:
  • 1st Prize – P5,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school
  • 2nd Prize – P4,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school
  • 3rd Prize – P3,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school

Grade School

READERS’ THEATRE CONTEST MECHANICS 

  1. The Student Category is open to groups of grades 4-6 pupils (min. of 5, max. of 10) from public and private schools in Metro Manila.
  1. The group of participants should be officially endorsed by their school and only one group in one school.
  1. Participants should register online. Link to be available soon.
  1. Registered participants and coaches are required to attend an orientation to be conducted by the Philippine Librarians Association Inc. (PLAI) in partnership with National Library of the Philippines.
  1. During the eliminations, the group of contestants shall deliver any Filipino award-winning story in 5 minutes.
  1. All finalists will deliver one Filipino award-winning story to be provided by the organizer.
  1. Use of school uniform, costume, make-up and microphone are not allowed. The organizer will provide t-shirt for the contestants during the Finals.
  1. The contest will be held at the Children’s Section of the National Library of the Philippines.
  1. The winners will receive the following prizes:
  • 1st Prize –      P 5,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school
  • 2nd Prize –     P 4,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school
  • 3rd Prize –      P 3,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school
