July 15, 2026

The Windham-Campbell Prizes Podcast presents a sequence of dialogues with former and current recipients of the Windham-Campbell Prize, focusing on the books and dramas they hold dear. The program is hosted by Michael Kelleher.

In this episode, Michael Kelleher converses with Joyelle McSweeney, who has been awarded the 2026 Windham-Campbell Prize in Poetry, regarding Anne Carson’s dynamic rendition of Euripides’ Iphigenia Among the Taurians and how reimagining a familiar narrative can reveal an alternate perspective.

Joyelle McSweeney has produced ten volumes spanning poetry, drama, and prose; she is widely recognized as a critic and as a dynamic advocate for translated international literature. Among her distinctions is a 2022 Guggenheim Fellowship in Poetry, and she co-founded and co-edits Action Books. She serves as the Chair of the English Department and holds the William P. and Hazel B. White Professorship in English at the University of Notre Dame.

The Windham-Campbell Prizes Podcast is a project of The Windham-Campbell Prizes, managed by Yale University Library’s Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library.

I write about books as quiet places where memory, imagination, and culture meet. At PLAI, I explore literature through reviews, author stories, reading reflections, and the small details that make a story stay with us long after the final page.
