Lit Hub Seeks Senior Editor for a New Vertical

October 21, 2026

Literary Hub is seeking a Senior Editor to help architect and oversee a new site slated to launch in Spring 2027. The vertical will encompass the entire annual slate of books—fiction and nonfiction—across every category, from children’s literature to romance to personal-finance guides. It will assemble perspectives from critics, authors, booksellers, librarians, and readers alike.

This represents a rare opportunity to influence a publication from its inception. You’ll come on board before the launch and collaborate closely with Lit Hub’s senior leadership to shape its editorial voice, standards, and workflows. The role is fast-paced and pivotal to a successful rollout, so you’ll need outstanding organizational and communication skills, as well as a genuine enthusiasm for the work.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate on crafting the editorial blueprint, establishing standards, and designing workflows for a busy, high-traffic vertical from pre-launch to post-launch.

• Manage an editorial calendar across three cadences:

• Daily features: timely pieces aligned with current events and forthcoming publications.

• Weekly features: roundups of new titles and ongoing trends in reading.

• Monthly and seasonal features: previews and top lists across genres, including back-to-school coverage, year-end roundups, and other thematic selections.

• Source and solicit contributions from authors, critics, booksellers, librarians, academics, and other experts.

• Write and edit articles, reviews, newsletters, and book roundups.

• Oversee assistant editors as the new vertical grows.

• Manage freelance writers, assignments, and budget.

• Create and oversee several weekly newsletters.

• Collaborate with editors across Literary Hub’s family of sites, including Lit Hub, CrimeReads, and Book Marks, on content, cross-promotion, and partnerships.

• Stay informed about the publishing industry and the major books published each year.

You have

• A minimum of four years of combined experience in book publishing or book media and in online media, including some experience supervising people or freelancers.

• Broad reading habits and the discernment to evaluate books on their merits—whether literary fiction, romance, or a guide to personal finance.

• Strong familiarity with online book culture.

• Practical knowledge of online publishing tools: CMS, newsletter platforms, and analytics.

• Experience building audiences, digital marketing, social media, and SEO.

• Awareness of the challenges facing publishing, especially discoverability.

• A favorite bookstore and an active library card.

Nice to have

• Existing relationships with authors, critics, booksellers, or librarians.

Details

• We are based in NYC but fully remote.

• Starting salary is $72-75k per year with health benefits

• Start date: Dec 1, 2026

To apply: Send a resume to jobs@lithub.com. We will also need three brief pitches for timely book lists. Timely in this case means either pegged to the news cycle, the season, or the current conversation online. Please include a compelling headline, and at least three potential titles (however, capsule reviews are NOT required). For examples, see here, here, here, and here.
