National Book Week 2017

POSTER MAKING CONTEST MECHANICS

1. The poster making contest is open to students of public and private colleges and universities nationwide.
2. The regional council may start their call for contest during the whole month of June.
3. The regional council may conduct an: (1) on the spot poster making contest (date to be determined by the regional council during the month of August) or (2) request to submit entries to the regional council on or before the last week of August. The regional council should select a regional winner before the first week of September.
4. The poster should be a visualization of the 2017 National Book Week theme: LIBRARIES TAKE ACTION: PROVIDING ACCESS AND OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL
5. Use white illustration board, 15” x 20” in size.
6. Contestants may use any medium (craypas, water color, crayon, pentel pen, etc.).
7. The entry should be an original work and a certification to this effect from the Dean/Coach/Librarian must be submitted together with the contestant’s name. Here’s the link: https://goo.gl/zJGTWR
8. The contestant’s name and school must be written on a separate sheet of paper and stapled or attached at the back of the entry.
9. All entries will become the property of PLAI.
10. The criteria for judging will be as follows:

35% – Originality
15% – Pictorial design and composition
15% – Technique
35% – Relevance to the theme
100% TOTAL

11. The winners will receive the following prizes:

• 1st Prize – P5,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition to the College/University
• 2nd Prize – P4,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition to the College/University
• 3rd Prize – P3,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition to the College/University

12. Non-winning entries will receive certificates of participation.
13. The winning entry will be used as souvenir program cover and in other promotional materials in relation to National Book Week celebration.
14. Winners will officially be awarded during the official opening of the 83rd National Book Week on November 24, 2017 during the PLAI National Congress. Due to limited funding, representatives from the regional council may receive the award on behalf of the contestant.

 ESSAY WRITING CONTEST MECHANICS

1. The essay writing contest is open to Grades 7-12 students of public and private secondary schools nationwide per regional council.
2. The regional council may start their call for contest during the whole month of June.
3. The regional council may conduct an: (1) on the spot essay writing contest (date to be determined by the regional council during the month of August) or (2) request to submit entries to the regional council on or before the last week of August. The regional council should select a regional winner before the first week of September.
4. The entry should be an original work and a certification to this effect from the Principal/Coach/Librarian must be submitted together with the contestant’s name.
5. The essay should be written in English, not more than 300 words, handwritten.
6. The contestant’s name and school must be written on a separate sheet of paper and stapled or attached at the back of the entry.
7. The winning entry in the regional level should submit a digital copy of the essay. Winning entries must be sent to the National Book Week Committee Chair on the first week of September.
8. All entries will become the property of PLAI. The winning entry in the regional level will automatically be the official entry for the national contest.
9. Judging of entries will be on the first week of October. The criteria for judging will be as follows:

40% – Content/relevance to the theme
30% – Organization and format
15% – Vocabulary
15% – Language and Style
100% TOTAL

10. The winners will receive the following prizes:

• 1st Prize – P5,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school
• 2nd Prize – P4,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school
• 3rd Prize – P3,000.00 and a Certificate of Recognition for the school

11. Non-winning entries will receive certificates of participation.

INTERACTIVE STORYTELLING CONTEST MECHANICS(of an award-winning book)
open to DepEd Divisions of the National Capital Region (NCR) only

1. The Student Category is open to grades 4-6 pupils from public and private schools in Metro Manila.
2. Participants should be officially endorsed by their school and only one participant in one school.

4. Registered participants and coaches are required to attend an orientation to be conducted by the Philippine Librarians Association Inc. (PLAI) in partnership with National Library of the Philippines.
5. Contestants shall deliver any Filipino award-winning story in 5 minutes.
6. All finalists will deliver one Filipino award-winning story to be provided by the organizer.
7. Use of school uniform, costume, make-up and microphone is not allowed. The organizer will provide t-shirt for the contestants during the finals.
8. The contest will be held at the Children’s Section of the National Library of the Philippines.
9. The following are the criteria for judging:

30% – Voice Projection and Expression
30% – Enunciation
30% – Facial Expressions and Gestures
10% – Audience Impact
100% TOTAL

10. The winners will receive the following prizes:
